Scale mobili: è stato Jessie Reno, nel 1892 a brevettare un meccanismo che, attraverso un nastro trasportatore rotante, faceva muovere i gradini di una scala. Il termine “escalator”, diventato poi uno standard colloquiale nei paesi anglosassoni, è in realtà un marchio commerciale.

Ero a Bangalore il giorno in cui hanno aperto una nuova shopping mall, indicatore della ricchezza che cominciava ad arrivare nella città grazie agli enormi call-centers, BPO/BPM, software factories che si stavano aprendo. Per la prima volta in città c’era una scala mobile.

Era impressionante la coda di curiosi, famiglie, anziani portati su sgangherate carrozzine a vedere l’incredibile attrazione. Era bellissimo vedere la sorpresa negli occhi di chi, prima esitante, poi conquistato dall’incredulità, incerto metteva i piedi sui primi gradini che poi si sollevavano. Qualcuno ondeggiava, qualcuno rideva. Molti si rimettevano in coda immediatamente dopo per riprovare questo incredibile gioco.

A Sentosa, invece, la gente è abituata alle scale mobili a grappoli ….

They are fragments of a life spent moving, looking, and waiting for moments to reveal themselves — often quietly, sometimes unexpectedly. This blog is not about destinations, but about presence. About what remains when the journey slows down and the shutter finally clicks.
