Stanotte, nel rincoglionito dormiveglia delle 3:30, ero certo di essere dentro un aereo: ma quello che non riuscivo a capire era perché avessi violato la mia promessa di non volare più con i velivoli spinti da motori a pistoni, dopo l’esperienza della carcassa che mi aveva scorazzato nel Deserto dei Gobi in Mongolia.

Il rumore che stavo sentendo era assordante.

Alla seconda bestemmia mi son reso conto di essere collassato ieri sera e di non aver spento la ventola del bagno, al cui confronto i 4 motori di un Lockheed Constellation posso sembrare il fruscio di un’auto elettrica.

L’autista stamani mi ha salutato in Zulu, “Sawubona Mau”: ormai si è capito che anche qui sarò di casa nei prossimi tempi.

Foto? Giornate lunghe, quasi doppio turno costante nella mia miniera virtuale, ma come promesso ho raccattato nella cantina digitale gli scatti fatti nel 2005 in giro per il South Africa: ve li pubblico in un paio di puntate, visto che non ho proprio il tempo di usare l’otturatore qui …

It has been more than fifty years since I began traveling across the world — and the seven seas — for work or for pleasure, always with a Leica M camera close at hand.
