Lo Shinkansen è il nome della rete Giapponese di treni ad alta velocità: 2,400 chilometri di binari che permettono andature che variano dai 240 ai 320 kmh, ma con test effettuati fino ai 450 kmh. Dov’è la cosa strana? È che è stata costruita a partire della 1964, quando noi ancora sognavamo l’alta velocità.

Il tratto più trafficato, il Tokaido Shinkansen, quello tra Tokyo e Osaka, e oggi supera serenamente i 160 milioni di passeggeri all’anno. Su questo percorso la frequenza raggiunge i 15 treni di 16 carrozze ciascuno all’ora, distanziati di soli 3 minuti l’uno dall’altro: le fermate alle stazioni sono millimetriche, in spazio e in orario, e bisogna sbrigarsi a salire/scendere perché la tolleranza è nell’ordine dei secondi.

Bellissimo vedere il coordinamento del capo-binario che si occupa di dare la partenza al treno: gesti simili a quelli che sulle portaerei si usano per far decollare i caccia, e l’accelerazione in partenza è simile a quella che porta un aereo in decollo.
