La Reuters segnala che il neo-eletto presidente Egiziano Abdel Fattah al-Sisi ha ordinato al suo Ministro dell’Interno di combattere la violenza nei confronti delle donne: l’Egitto è all’ultimo posto nel mondo arabo nella classifica sulla difesa dei diritti femminili, essendo teatro storico di harassment, violenze, stupri e mutilazione dei genitali, azioni criminali che si sono incrementate soprattutto durante e dopo le manifestazioni del 2011.

Una prima legge, promulgata un paio di settimane fa, punisce con l’arresto e un minimo di 6 mesi di detenzione o Egyptian £3,000 ($420) di multa, gli atti di violenza nei confronti delle donne.

Speriamo sia il primo passo di una lunga maratona per garantire sicurezza, rispetto e uguaglianza alle donne di questo paese.

Foto? Prima che cominciasse la Primavera Araba e quando Mubarak non sapeva di avere solo ancora poche settimane di governo, ero al Cairo …
