Apro la finestra ed esco in terrazza: devo riconoscere che passare l’inverno da queste parti è veramente un piacere che mi ero scordato. Sono ancora bagnato dalla doccia ed è bello sentirsi l’aria fresca dell’alba sulla pelle.

Sento risuonare nell’aria le voci dalle moschee che invitano alla Fajr, la prima preghiera delle cinque quotidiane secondo la prescrizione mussulmana che le indica come uno dei Cinque Pilastri dell’Islam. La prima, “Fajr”, ṣalāt al-faǧr “la preghiera dell’alba”, è la più importante. Poi oggi è venerdì, il giorno della religione, del riposo.

Riposo? Farò colazione a Dubai, pranzerò a Londra, mi berrò un bicchiere di vino prima di andare a dormire a Milano.

Prendo la macchina fotografica, imposto la sensibilità su 1250ISO, il diaframma a f4 e il tempo su 1/8 di secondo: scatto, a mano libera ….

It has been more than fifty years since I began traveling across the world — and the seven seas — for work or for pleasure, always with a Leica M camera close at hand. The camera has never been an accessory; it has been a constant companion, a way of observing, remembering, and making sense of the places and people I encountered along the way. I started keeping this kind of journal some time ago, not as a diary in the traditional sense, but as a space where images and words could meet. This is not a publication driven by schedules or algorithms. At times I disappear for long stretches; then, inevitably, I return with semi-regular updates. Publishing, for me, is a mirror of my state of mind and emotions. It follows my rhythm, not the other way around. You have to take it exactly as it comes. Every photograph you see here is mine. They are fragments of a life spent moving, looking, and waiting for moments to reveal themselves — often quietly, sometimes unexpectedly. This blog is not about destinations, but about presence. About what remains when the journey slows down and the shutter finally clicks.

        I was going to write ‘and I imagine you saw nothing due to heavy cloud cover’. Looked out the window to check and realised we have fairly blue skies here in Anversa. This is really bad as I’m just in the door from the city and thought I was paying attention … more or less 🙂

        Might I just? But I’m heading for some small village between Roma and Napoli first. Apparently, they tell me, there are other places in Italy that aren’t Genova. Who knew that 🙂 I adore Genova… did you know that?

    e no scusa …. 1/8 a mano libera no!!! Non si può! E’ assolutamente proibito!
    Quindi la foto allegata è una cartolina dei Re Magi che hai scannerizzato da un album di Natale.
    e basta!
    Io quasi non riesco a tenere la macchina ferma a 1/60. E tu sei pure più vecchio di me.

      Vedi che alla fine usare regolarmente il Barrett come strumento di lavoro aiuta anche ad avere la mano ferma con la fotografia … 🙂
